Donna Odom

This workshop is an in-depth approach to the first step in the Racial Healing Initiative developed by Ms. Odom for the Society for History and Racial Equity.

  •      format based on the transformative power of narrative

  •      reconstructing our personal histories

  •      finding the meaning in what we have lived through

  •      identifying influences that have shaped us

  •      what issues are most important to us

  •      how do we want to grow and change

  •      what qualities and strengths in me can be harnessed for change

Format includes a pre-journaling circle, individual journaling, small group sharing, and a closing circle.

The Journaling for Personal and Community Transformation Series provides a quiet, focused, disciplined and supportive space that allows participants to connect with themselves to discover

  • What influences have shaped you

  • What issues are most important to you

  • What changes you would like to see in yourself and your community

  • What personal qualities you possess that can be harnessed to effect change.

Martha Cabrera, a clinical and community psychologist who was working in Nicaragua after Hurricane Mitch, described the transformative power of narrative: “… when people begin to reflect on their own history, a fundamental process takes place that is not achieved by traditional training programs: people find meaning and significance in what they have lived through.

I can think of no better way to move gently and purposefully into the season of gratitude and to prepare our hearts, minds, and souls for the deeper and important work that we can do as individuals and a community to support each other on this human journey, to welcome each person to the table, and to insure that everyone has a voice at the table.

I look forward to seeing you all there.  Seating is limited and am including the link you can use to register:   Donna Odom Journaling Workshop | Unity of Kalamazoo Church (myvanco.com)
